Protests and demonstrations against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have been occurring throughout the country. Protests have grown after a Minnesota resident, Renee Good, was fatally shot by an ICE officer in a heated exchange.
Crowds gathered in cities across New York, Texas, Philadelphia, Connecticut, Washington, Massachusetts, Colorado, Oregon, California, North Carolina and Minnesota. Protestors have been seen with signs that say “Justice for Renee,” “ICE Out,” and “Be Good.” Protestors have also utilized horns, bells and whistles to disrupt ICE agents and warn community members. ICE agents have begun utilizing tear gas, pepper spray and flash bombs to try to settle down protestors.
According to NBC News, “Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said he doesn’t want to eliminate Immigration and Customs Enforcement, but believes ICE agents should target states that have larger numbers of undocumented immigrants.” Frey has called for ICE to get out of the city and has stood up against the allegation that Good had used her car as a weapon against ICE agents.
