Upcoming Theater Productions at Meredith College

The new academic year brings with it a new schedule of exciting performances by Meredith College students. Professor of Theater Dr. Steven Roten has provided The Herald with insight into what the theater department is preparing.

The department will be performing two shows in the fall semester, the first being Rebellious by Mike Wiley. Performances will run from Sep. 24 to Sep. 27 at 7:30 p,m., Sep. 27 to Sep. 28 at 2:00 pm, and Thursday, Oct. 2 to Oct. 4 in Jones Studio Theatre. Their second show, Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson-Apt 2B, will run from Nov. 12 to Nov.  15 at 7:30 p.m., with additional performances at 2:30 p.m. on Nov.15 and 16. According to Dr. Roten, “These two shows were chosen to offer our students and community different perspectives of Theater as Art and Theater as Entertainment” and “because of the opportunities they would offer… in the areas of style, period, and content.”

Dr. Roten also shared other exciting things happening in the Theater department. Professor of Theater Dr. Lomerev Jones has been awarded a “grant from the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music” for this year’s musical, Lady in the Dark, which is to be performed during the spring semester. Dr. Roten said that “This is a great honor for us, and we are proud to produce this classic musical for our community.” Of Jones' ongoing renovation, Roten said, “we are excited as our building continues to undergo structural and cosmetic changes that will improve the theatre experience for our audiences!”

Come see these shows and support our campus community!
