Winter Storm Forecast for the Triangle
It’s that time of year: the forecast says it will snow, but will it actually happen this time? As of Jan. 20, NOAA forecasts a 90% chance of precipitation and temperatures below freezing, meaning this could finally be the time that the Raleigh area sees significant snowfall. A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for Wake County warning of potential snowfall at the end of the week.
Highs are expected to stay below freezing on Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures potentially reaching the teens, according to The News & Observer. Temperatures on Monday could also remain around freezing, resulting in snow and ice not being melted by the start of the week. Precipitation amounts are also up in the air, as it is currently unclear whether this will be a majority snow or ice event.
Campus Safety Magazine encourages students to remain at home if possible in the event of a winter storm and to only venture out if they have appropriate footwear to avoid slips and falls, as well as to avoid driving without winter tires or all-wheel drive. This guide by the Red Cross also details steps that can be taken to mitigate the cold. Students are encouraged to sign up for MC Alert to be the most up to date on safety information from the college.
