On Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 10 a.m., there will be an event centered around Women Voters: Past and Present. This Zoom event will feature the voices of guest speaker Joshua Chanin of Texas A&M University-Commerce and Dr. David McLennan and Dr. Whitney Manzo of the Meredith College Political Science Department. It will also include the thoughts of women involved in North Carolina politics.

Joshua Chanin will discuss his research involving the ratification of the 19th Amendment, and explains the role voter suppression still plays in 2020 elections.

Dr. McLennan, Director of the Meredith Poll, plans to discuss topics of both the September and October Meredith Polls. You can read more about these topics here.

Dr. Manzo, as well as other women in North Carolina politics, will describe the issue of North Carolina earning a poor grade in women’s political participation through four main components — voter turnout and registration, representation in office and resources from the NC council panel for women and youth involvement — which you can watch here.

This event will count as an academic/cultural event, and you can register for the Zoom event here.
