APRIL FOOLS': Taylor Swift Announced as Meredith's 2025 Woman of Achievement

In previous years, Meredith College has recognized various women as inspirational role models. This award is known as the Women of Achievement Award. Previous recipients of this award include Tony award-winning Beth Leavel, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and NC Supreme Court Justice Sarah Parker. Taylor Swift has been chosen as next year's recipient due to her numerous music awards, her wildly successful eras tour and her advocacy for women in the music industry. The ceremony for this award will be held in April of next year, a few months following the conclusion of the eras tour.

Taylor Swift is known for her tremendous levels of commercial success and has set numerous records. As of August 2022 she has sold over 200 million albums which makes her one of the best selling artists in history. She has achieved worldwide recognition for her music and here on campus she is especially popular with many of the students.

Elaina Irving, ‘26, stated “[she] personally admires the way that Taylor Swift continues to be successful in the face of such heavy criticisms about her career and even aspects of her personal life so [she’s] very excited to take advantage of the opportunity to meet such a strong woman” and that Taylor Swift has “been a really big inspiration for [her].” This attitude seems to reflect the excitement of everyone on campus who has heard the news.

Due to the strong anticipated interest in the ceremony, as the day draws closer the Office of Student Leadership and Service (SLS) will begin accepting reservations for the event. The event will remain free for Meredith students but seats will need to be reserved due to limited seating in Jones Auditorium.

Any questions regarding the Woman of Achievement event need not be directed to any campus organization, considering this is The Herald catching readers with a classic April Fools’ Day joke!

Happy April Fools Day!
