Bad Bunny, a Puerto Rican musician, is set to perform at the 2026 Superbowl half-time show on Feb. 8, 2026. According to AP, the news came from the NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation. A teaser video was released on social media and the NFL’s YouTube channel on Sep. 28, 2025.
Bad Bunny is a rapper and singer who has achieved “superstar” level success, according to CNN. Bad Bunny “has become one of the world’s most streamed artists with albums such as ‘Un Verano Sin Ti,’ an all-Spanish-language LP,” according to AP. Bad Bunny has kept it consistent by being one of the most streamed artists for the past few years and recently reached 20 billion streams on Spotify with his LP, the first artist to do so, according to Boardroom. Per CNN, “The choice is significant. The three-time Grammy winner is having arguably the biggest moment of his career, recently wrapping a two-month residency at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan – a series that wrapped with a concert streamed on Amazon.” The streamed concert set a record by being the most watched live-stream on Amazon Music, according to Billboard.
He is set to perform in all Spanish, which will make history and is “a landmark moment for Latino culture,” per AP. A performance of this style and type has never happened before. This will be the first time a male Latin artist will headline the show. According to AP, “His Super Bowl announcement included a pointed dedication: ‘This is for my people, my culture, and our history.’”
The announcement has caused an uproar of comments on social media, both positive and negative. Users on platforms, like Reddit, have posted in support of Bad Bunny and questioning the disgust of the choice of performer. One user posed the question, “What's the deal?” while another user said “I love this but also not going to like how much some people will complain about it.” Several social media users have also posted comments similar to the sarcastic Reddit post of one user, “Very bold choice.”
Bad Bunny has responded to some negative comments, including during his recent performance on SNL, according to CNN. During his SNL monologue he quipped to audiences, “If you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn,” per NBC.
