March 29: Tennis match at William Peace University


Meredith’s tennis team took the court for the first time this season and won their first game with a final score of 5-2. In the doubles competition, the Avenging Angels opened with a 3-0 sweep. Aly Henneberry and Savannah Duduk, ‘24, won a doubles match with a final score of 8-6. Senior Logan King and freshman Summer Elkins posted an 8-5 win over the Pacers. In singles play, the final scores were 6-0, 6-1 and 6-2.


March 30: Softball game at William Peace University


The softball team took on William Peace and put up a tough battle, but in the end it wasn’t enough to defeat the Pacers. The final score for the first game was 5-10. Payton Aldridge, ‘21, Brie Caldwell, Emily Clemmons, ‘21, and Danielle Hunt all pitched during the first game. Freshman Sarah Manis was up to bat four times during the first game and had one run. Seniors Madison Hamilton and Rachel Johnson were up to bat four times during the first game. Brie Caldwell was up to bat three times and had two runs. Alyssa Drake, ‘21, Susanne Taylor, ‘21, and Tatum Smith all were up to bat three times each. Laura Tobin, ‘24, was up to bat twice and had one run. Anna Goldman was up to bat twice during the first game. Freshman Mia Staggs was up to bat once and had one run. The final score of the second game was 0-8. Fallon Wimberly, Hannah Weigle and Emily Clemmons all pitched during this game. Sarah Manis was up to bat three times during the game. Alyssa Drake, Tatum Smith, Susanne Taylor, Anna Goldman, Savannah Talley and Mia Staggs were all up to bat twice during the second game. Madison Hamilton and Kendall Johnson, ‘24, were up to bat once each during the second game.


April 1: Golf match at Deep Springs Club against Southern Virginia University and Greensboro College


The golf team took to the course for the first time this season and placed second against Southern Virginia University and Greensboro College at Deep Springs Club. Senior Allyson Nowell finished sixth with a total of 117 and +45 par. Leah Campbell placed ninth with a total of 129 and +57 par. Freshman Jenna Cirillo placed tenth with 135 total and +63 par. Senior Kimberly Schuh placed eleventh with a total of 1186 and +1114 par. The golf team’s next game is April 6, 2021, vs. Methodist University at Wildwood Green Golf Club at 2 p.m.


April 2: Volleyball game at home against Methodist University


Meredith’s volleyball team took the court for senior day with a double-header against Methodist and won both games. Seniors Abby Lee, Ally Copenhaver, Kristen Leavel and Lauren Phillips were honored at the game. The final score of the first game was 3-1. Ally Copenhaver had 40 total attempts, 11 digs and three block assists. Avery Bowman had 29 total attempts, 12 digs and two block assists. Hailey Long had 27 total attempts, two digs and four block assists. Whitney Bolton had 24 total attempts and four block assists. Kristen Leavel had 17 total attempts, two digs and two block assists. Lauren Bissette, ‘24, had 14 total attempts and seven block assists. Bailey Lucas had three total attempts and eight digs. Lauren Phillips had one total attempt and 24 digs. The final score of the second game was 3-2. Ally Copenhaver had a total of 46 total attempts, six digs and one block assist. Avery Bowman had a total of 29 total attempts, seven digs, one block solo and one block assist. Hailey Long had a total of 27 attempts, two digs, one block solo and two block assists. Kristen Leavel had 24 total attempts, two digs and two block assists. Whitney Bolton had 21 total attempts, one dig and three block assists. Lauren Bissette had 14 total attempts, one dig and three block assists. Bailey Lucas finished with a total of nine attempts and seven digs. The next game for the angels is scheduled for April 11, 2021 at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. at Mary Baldwin University.


April 2: Lacrosse game at home against Randolph-Macon College


The lacrosse team took the field against Randolph-Macon and won with a final score of 15-12 with Joy Deitrich as the goalie. Kylie Phillips scored four goals and had five total shots. Lilia Cruz, ‘21, scored three goals, had six total shots, two ground balls and seven draw controls. Olivia Blake scored three goals and had seven total shots. Tori Witmer scored two goals and had three total shots. Arrianna May, ‘24, scored one goal, had three assists, two total shots and five draw controls. Maya Flake scored one goal, had one assist and two total shots. Jessica Dowdy, ‘24, scored one goal, three total shots, two ground balls and one draw control. Briana Petrusa, ‘21, had one assist and two ground balls. Ali Schuh, Meredith Sinkler and Izzy Steele had two ground balls each. Sydney Lee, ‘24, and Ansley Harris, ‘21, each had one ground ball. The next scheduled game is April 7, 2021 at home against N.C. Wesleyan College at 6:00 p.m..


April 3: Tennis match against Averett University


Meredith’s tennis team took the court against Averett University and lost with a final score of 9-0. No players won the singles or doubles matchups. The team’s next game is on April 7, 2021, at home at 4:30 p.m. against Methodist University.


April 3: Softball game against Averett University

Senior Alyssa Drake was up to bat four times during the first game. Savannah Talley, ‘24, was up to bat three times and had one run. Madison Hamilton, ‘21, Anna Goldman, Brie Caldwell and Tatum Smith were all up to bat three times each. Senior Rachel Johnson was up to bat twice and had one run. Freshman Sarah Manis and senior Susanne Taylor were both up to bat twice during the first game. The final score of the second game was 4-2. Danielle Hunt was the pitcher for the second game. Alyssa Drake was up to bat four times and had one run. Madison Hamilton was up to bat three times and had one run. Sarah Manis, Rachel Johnson, Savannah Talley and Susanne Taylor were all up to bat three times each during the second game. Anna Goldman, Tatum Smith and Mia Staggs, ‘24, were all up to bat twice during the second game. Fallon Wimberly finished with batting once during the second game. The next scheduled games are April 10, 2021, at home against Pfeiffer University at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
