Our in-house Formula 1 (F1) fan is here to talk all things F1 with you!

At 12:00 a.m. EST on Mar. 16, Formula 1’s 2025 season officially began at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne, Australia. This marks the start of another thrilling year of high-speed competition, where the world's best drivers and teams battle for supremacy on some of the most demanding circuits on the planet.

Formula 1 is a global racing series commonly referred to as “the pinnacle of motorsport” and considered to be the most prestigious and widely-followed racing championship in the world, as noted by the official Formula 1 page. While the number of teams and circuits have fluctuated over the years, as of 2025 the sport consists of ten teams, each made up of two drivers, who compete at 24 circuits across the globe. Points are awarded based on drivers’ finishing positions with the ultimate goal of winning one of two major titles: the World Drivers’ Championship (for individual drivers) and the Constructors’ Championship (for teams). According to a Formula 1 timeline devised by ESPN, the sport had its  inaugural season in 1950, and since then  Formula 1 has evolved into a global phenomenon, drawing millions of fans to race weekends and hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide. According to SportsPro, the 2024 season drew an astounding 750 million fans globally with even more expected in 2025 and beyond.

The 2022 and 2023 F1 seasons were dominated by Oracle Red Bull Racing, whose driver Max Verstappen won 28 races in total between the 2023 and 2024 season, according to ESPN statistics. His skills secured him back-to-back titles, arguably cementing his place as one of the sport’s modern greats. But during the 2024 season (and particularly following the 2024 Miami Grand Prix) Red Bull’s dominance began to waver. As early as Aug. 2024 the official Formula 1 website featured articles predicting the downfall of Red Bull Racing’s dominance, particularly as a result of the successes of rival front-running teams Mclaren and Ferrari. Ultimately, Max Verstappen secured his fourth World Driving Championship award, but for the first time since 1998, the Constructors’ Cup was awarded to Mclaren, as noted by the F1 website. Now, as Formula 1 heads into 2025, the question on everyone’s mind is whether Verstappen and Red Bull will be able to recover their dominance or if their rivals will manage to close the gap even more than they did in 2024.

A shift in team hierarchy isn’t the only change as we head into the 2025 season. SkySports reported that this season will see an astonishing six rookie drivers on the grid, and the official Formula 1 website shared that there are seven new rules to learn for the upcoming 2025 season, as noted by Chris Medland.

Whether you’re a die-hard follower or a newcomer to the sport, 2025 is shaping up to be a must-watch year for Formula 1. Buckle up—because in F1, anything can happen!
