NC State, a co-ed university, is just a few minutes down the road from Meredith College, a historically-women’s college. Students on both campuses interact frequently, mainly because of their close proximity. However, not all those interactions are positive.

Members of the Meredith community often hear more about how Meredith students feel they’re perceived by NC State students than the other way around. The Herald took to social media and to the sidewalks of NC State to find out how State students really feel about Meredith College — anonymously and publicly.

Watch the first installment in our two-part series on stereotypes of Meredith students above. Watch the second video here.

Lastly, mental health. Just because an individual's interests differ from yours does not mean that person is "weird".

For some people, parties = massive overstimulation & crippling anxiety.

(literally "Here" by Alessia Cara)

Alcohol, drugs etc. can result in varying reactions and tolerances (which can influence one's frequency and usage of them). Further, some choose not to indulge in drugs or alcohol for religious or personal reasons.

That girl who was mocked and called "weird" for refusing alcohol?

Her father was an abusive drunkard.

That guy who was peer pressured to smoke?

His chain-smoking brother died due to lung cancer.

Let's stop making sweeping judgements and ostracizing. Let's do better.

I also want to add that there is at times a covert classist element in speaking about partying, hanging out, and "loosening up" in college. Not everybody is a trust fund kid, running amok with silver spoons dangling from their mouths. Not everyone has the luxury to let their grades slip and depend on their parent's paycheck. Some students are too tied up in work, school, and supporting their families to "run wild".

If a student is receiving a scholarship that requires maintenance of a certain GPA, that then equals plenty of studying and effort. It is time consuming and stressful knowing that the funds which allow a student to attend a college could be stripped at any moment. Students…

Most of the dislike seems to be conjecture, unfounded, or infantile. Any dislike that is "material" is most likely the result of a rejection, failed relationship, and bruised ego.

And the girl at the end...

Some people go to college to... study.

Seems to be a lot of the prude trope (*ahem*misogyny) as well. Because a woman who drinks and parties is easy game and "foul", but one who studies, abstains and minds her own is "odd". There is no winning.
