Weekly Sports Wrap-Up: April 25 - May 1

April 28-29: USA South Track and Field Championship Meet at Berea College


The track and field team traveled to Berea, Kentucky, and finished fourth in the USA South Championship. Senior Kim Schuh scored a new school record in the javelin with a score of 32.09 meters, which was good enough for a bronze medal. Senior Ansley Bucknam ran the 400 meter hurdles (finals) and the 200 meter dash (prelims) and finished with times of 1:11.35 and 29.92. Senior Fancie Overman ran the 400 meter dash (prelims) and the 800 meter (final) and finished with times of 1:10.02 and 2:46.28. The 4x100 relay team of Erin Outlaw, Jazmin Reyes, ‘24, Ansley Bucknam and Grace Olufemi-Ajayi placed first with a time of 54.53. The 4x400 relay team of Erin Outlaw, Kaelin Sanderford, Ansley Bucknam and Corrine Weaver placed third with a time of 4:27.86. Corrine Weaver ran the 1500 and 800 meter races and finished third in both races with times of 5:04.72 and 2:27.80. Erin Outlaw ran the 400, 100 and 200 meter dash and finished with times of 1:06.10, 13.86 and 28.73. Kaelin Sanderford placed fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 14:12.48. Freshman Isabella Saudo ran the 10000 and 5000 meter races and finished with times of 45:53.15 and 22:02.67. Julie Tonon ran the 5000 meter race and finished fifth place with a new personal best of 19:37.53. The 2021 Meredith track and field team consisted of Abby Black, Emma Brooks, Ansley Bucknam, Ashleigh Buser, Michelle Gladdis, Madison Massey, Claire Miller, Grace Olufemi-Ajayi, Mitxi Ortiz, Erin Outlaw, Francie Overman, Jala Pollock, Jazmin Reyes, Mia Russell, Kaelin Sanderford, Isabella Saudo, Kimberly Schuh, Kaylee Spencer, Julie Tonon, Sara-Hale Watson and Corrine Weaver.


May 1: Lacrosse game vs. Piedmont College at USA South Tournament Championship


The Meredith lacrosse team took the field against Piedmont College and won the USA South Tournament with a final score of 26-8. Joy Deitrich, ‘21, and Madeline Horrell, ‘24, were the goalies for this game. Olivia Blake scored six goals, had one assist, 12 total shots and one ground ball. Senior Lilia Cruz scored five goals, had five assists, nine total shots and seven draw controls. Freshman Arrianna May scored five goals, had three assists, eight total shots and five draw controls. Jessica Dowdy, ‘24, scored four goals, had two assists, six total shots and 14 draw controls. Kylie Phillips scored three goals, had six total shots and one ground ball. Tori Witmer scored two goals, had one assist and eight total shots. Maya Flake scored one goal, had two assists and two total shots. This is the team’s seventh straight conference championship win.
