Weekly Sports Wrap-Up: March 14-20

March 14: Women’s softball game at home against Greensboro College


In this weekend’s doubleheader against Greensboro College, Meredith softball sadly lost both games. The first game’s final score was 10-3. Brie Caldwell, Hannah Weigle, Emily Clemmons, ‘21, and Payton Aldridge, ‘21, all pitched during the first game. Seniors Alyssa Drake, Madison Hamilton and Susanne Taylor were all up to bat four times during the game and had one run each. Tatum Smith was up to bat four times during the game and Fallon Wimberly was up to bat three times during the game. Anna Goldman, Rachel Johnson, ‘21, Savannah Talley, ‘24, Taylor Walker and Kendall Johnson, ‘24, were all up to bat two times each. Freshman Sarah Manis was up to bat once in the first game. The final score of the second game was 8-0. Alyssa Drake, Madison Hamilton, Anna Goldman, Fallon Wimberly, Tatum Smith, Susanne Taylor and Savannah Talley all were up to bat three times during the second game. Rachel Johnson and Laura Tobin, ‘24, both were up to bat two times each.


March 19: Women’s lacrosse game at NC Wesleyan College


The Avenging Angels took to the field on Saturday, March 20 against NC Wesleyan and won with a final score of 24-1. Senior Joy Deitrich and freshman Madeline Horrell were the goalies for this game. Maya Flake scored four goals, with four assists and four total shots. Jessica Dowdy, ‘24, also scored four goals, with four shots total and four draw controls. Tori Witmer scored three goals, with three shots total and one assist. Olivia Blake scored two goals, with six shots total and two assists. Freshman Arrianna May scored two goals, with three shots total and one assist. Kamryn Muschette, ‘24, scored two goals and had three shots total. Kylie Phillips scored one goal, three shots total and two assists. Senior Briana Petrusa scored one goal and had one assist. Caroline Butler, Sydney Lee, ‘24, Faith Gray, Ali Schuh and Lauren Oliver all scored one goal each.


March 20: Women’s volleyball game at home against NC Wesleyan College


The Meredith volleyball team played a doubleheader against NC Wesleyan and won both games with a score of 3-0 for each game. In the first game, Hailey Long had a total of 23 attempts and five digs. Avery Bowman had a total of 20 attempts, nine digs and three block assists. Senior Ally Copenhaver had a total of 18 attempts and five digs. Whitney Bolton had a total of 11 attempts, one block solo and two block assists. Lauren Bissette, ‘24, had a total of six attempts, one block solo and one block assist. Bailey Lucas had a total of three attempts and 11 digs. Abby Lee, ‘21, had a total of one attempt and one dig. In the second game, Ally Copenhaver had a total of 25 attempts and 11 digs. Hailey Long had a total of 15 attempts and two digs. Avery Bowman had 14 total attempts and three digs. Senior Kristen Leavel had eight total attempts and one block assist. Lauren Bissette had eight total attempts, one dig and one block assist. Whitney Bolton had eight total attempts. Bailey Lucas, Abby Lee and Lauren Phillips all had one total attempt each.


March 20: Women’s softball game at home against Mary Baldwin University


The women’s softball team played a doubleheader against Mary Baldwin and won both games. The final score of the first game was 8-0. Sarah Gundlach was the pitcher for the first game. Anna Goldman was up to bat three times and had two runs. Madison Hamilton, ‘21, Rachel Johnson, ‘21, and Savannah Talley, ‘24, all were up to bat three times and had one run each. Alyssa Drake, ‘21, Sarah Manis, ‘24, and Fallon Wimberly all were up to bat three times each during game one. Tatum Smith was up to bat twice and had two runs. Senior Susanne Taylor was up to bat two times and had one run. The final score of the second game was 6-12. Graduate student Danielle Hunt and junior Sarah Gundlach were the pitchers for the second game. Alyssa Drake was up to bat five times and had three runs. Tatum Smith was up to bat four times and had three runs. Sarah Manis was up to bat four times and had one run. Fallon Wimberly and Anna Goldman were up to bat four times each. Savannah Talley and Susanne Taylor both were up to bat three times and had two runs. Brie Caldwell was up to bat three times and had one run. Madison Hamilton was up to bat two times.
