March 23: Women’s soccer game against Pfeiffer University


Meredith’s women’s soccer team lost against Pfeiffer University with a final score of 2-0. The Avenging Angels weren’t able to get any shots into the net.


March 24: Women’s softball game at Methodist University


Meredith split a doubleheader with Methodist University and won one game and lost the other. The Avenging Angels lost the first game with a final score of 1-2. Sarah Gundlach pitched for the first game. Freshman Sarah Manis and senior Alyssa Drake were up to bat four times each during the first game. Fallon Wimberly and seniors Susanne Taylor and Madison Hamilton were up to bat three times each. Rachel Johnson, ‘21, Tatum Smith and Savannah Talley, ‘24, were up to bat two times each during the first game. Anna Goldman was up to bat once and had one run. The Angels won the second game with a score of 4-1. Danielle Hunt was the pitcher for the second game. Alyssa Drake was up to bat four times and had one run. Anna Goldman, Savannah Talley and Susanne Taylor were up to bat four times each during the second game. Rachel Johnson and Laura Tobin, ‘24, were up to bat three times and had one run each. Sarah Manis and Madison Hamilton were up to bat three times each during the game. Tatum Smith was up to bat twice during the game.


March 24: Women’s lacrosse game at home against Roanoke College


The Avenging Angels took to the field against Roanoke College and won with a final score of 14-16. Joy Deitrich, ‘21, was the goalie for the entirety of the game. Senior Lilia Cruz scored six goals, had eight total shots, two ground balls and six draw controls. Maya Flake scored three goals, five assists and three total shots. Arrianna May, ‘24, scored three goals, three assists, three total shots, two ground balls and four draw controls. Olivia Blake scored two goals, had two assists, six total shots and one ground ball. Tori Witmer scored two goals and had three total shots.


March 27: Women’s track and field at the 4th Annual Adidas Trojan Challenge


The Meredith track and field team traveled to the University of Mount Olive for the 4th Annual Adidas Trojan Challenge. Kim Schuh, ‘21, had a season-best of 27.71 meters in the javelin throw and finished in eighth place. She also participated in the shot put and got a personal best of 9.92 meters along with a fifteenth place finish. Grace Olufemi-Ajayi ran the 100 and 200-meter dash with a finishing time of 13.73 in the 100 and 29.22 in the 200. Sara-Hale Watson also ran the 100 and 200-meter dash and finished with a 15.28 in the 100 and 32.68 in the 200. Jazmin Reyes, ‘24, participated in the long jump and the 400-meter hurdles, she finished with a 3.56m in the long jump and 1:36.38 in the 400 hurdles. Erin Outlaw ran the 200m, 400m and 4x400m relay with times of 29.07 for the 200 and 1:05.59 for the 400. Along with Outlaw, Corrine Weaver, Ashleigh Buser and Andrea Gallegos ran the 4x400 relay with a finishing time of 4:26.76 and a sixth-place finish.


Corrine Weaver ran the 1500m and 800m and her finishing times were 4:55.44 in the 1500m and 2:26.09 in the 800m. She finished in fifth place for both events. Andrea Gallegos, ‘24, ran the 800m and 1500m races and finished with times of 2:31.91 and 5:09.85 and a ninth-place finish in the 1500m. Ashleigh Buser, ‘24, ran the 800m and 1500m races and finished with times of 2:48.84 and 5:27.88. Claire Miller, ‘24, ran the 800m and 1500m races and finished with times of 2:52.36 and 5:46.40. Kaylee Spencer ran the 800m and 1500m races and finished with times of 2:53.31 and 5:50.48. Mia Russell, ‘24, ran the 1500m and finished with a time of 6:42.32. Madison Massey, ‘24, ran the 400m dash and finished with a time of 1:27.39. Francie Overman, ‘21, ran the 800m race in 2:41.00. Michelle Gladdis ran the 800m race in 3:13.14. Mitxi Ortiz ran the 800m race and finished with a time of 2:58.26. Julie Tonon ran the 5000m race and finished in fifth place with a time of 20:11.58. Isabella Saudo ran the 5000m race and finished with a time of 22:06.48 and a ninth-place finish. Emma Brooks ran the 5000m race and finished in tenth with a final time of 23:30.25.


March 27: Women’s volleyball at Greensboro College


The women’s volleyball team took the court and split a doubleheader against Greensboro College and won the first game 3-2. Avery Bowman had a total of 52 attempts, 17 digs and four block assists. Ally Copenhaver, ‘21, had 48 total attempts and nine digs. Hailey Long had 40 total attempts, 15 digs and one block solo. Freshman Lauren Bissette had 22 total attempts, one dig, one block solo and four block assists. Whitney Bolton had 13 total attempts, two block solos and one block assist. Bailey Lucas had eight total attempts and 12 digs. Kristen Leavel, ‘21, had seven total attempts, one block solo and one block assist. The Angels fell to the Pride with a final score of 1-3 in the second game. Ally Copenhaver had 39 total attempts, 11 digs and one block assist. Hailey Long had 32 total attempts, 11 digs and one block assist. Avery Bowman had 29 total attempts, 13 digs and one block assist. Whitney Bolton had 17 total attempts and two block assists. Kristen Leavel had 16 total attempts and three block assists. Lauren Bissette had 14 total attempts, one dig and four block assists. Bailey Lucas had three total attempts and four digs. Lauren Phillips had one total attempt and 23 digs.


March 27: Women’s soccer game at home against Greensboro College


On senior night, the women’s soccer team lost 1-0 against the Pride. The Avenging Angels weren’t able to get any shots into the net.

Savannah Talley, ‘24, was up to bat once during the first game. The final score of the second game was 3-0. Alyssa Drake, Sarah Manis, ‘24, and Madison Hamilton were all up to bat three times and had one run each. Rachel Johnson, Susanne Taylor and Anna Goldman were up to bat three times during the second game. Tatum Smith, Fallon Wimberly and Kendall Johnson were up to bat two times each.

The women’s lacrosse team played against Methodist University and won with a final score of 22-1. The goalie for the game was Joy Deitrich, ‘21. Olivia Blake scored five goals, had one assist, seven total shots and one ground ball. Maya Flake scored four goals, had two assists, six total shots and one ground ball. Kylie Phillips scored three goals, had four assists and five total shots. Senior Lilia Cruz scored three goals, had one assist, seven total shots and six draw controls. Briana Petrusa, ‘21, scored three goals, had five total shots, one ground ball and one draw control. Arrianna May, ‘24, scored two goals, had one assist, four total shots, two ground balls and one draw control. Tori Witmer scored one goal, had one assist, three total shots and one ground ball. Jessica Dowdy, ‘24, scored one goal, had one shot and six draw controls.
